Life Details
Background: Adriel grew up rather, er... sheltered, in a majestic mansion on a cliff overlooking the ocean. His parents weren't around much, leaving him to be treated like the master of the house. With staff at his beck and call and private tutors boosting his ego while teaching him the great legacy of magic, he developed a rather grandiose sense of self -- and when it came time to develop a persona, he picked... "a god."
Not any particular deity with a specific personality to evoke, just a generalized and unbridled sense of grandness and divinity. He also decided that since he "was" so grand and special, at some point or another, he ought to take a shot at ruling the world.
He somewhat underestimated the task.
Nonetheless, he happened to meet a powerful and dangerous spirit that took an interest in his ambitions and convinced him it was his best shot at enacting his plan. He made a deal with it to give it all the humans it could eat in exchange for great power. Then he struck out on his world-conquering expedition, managing to "conquer" a small town, encasing enough of its residents in stasis crystals that the remaining population fled or hid. He never got around to sacrificing the residents to his spirit, which turned out to be a very good thing for everyone involved.
He managed to maintain control of the town for a couple of days, "reigning" as governor/god-emperor(?) until the magical authorities showed up. There was a mutually violent struggle, but they subdued him and the spirit, and eventually his parents showed up and used their influence to smooth things over, explaining that he was not a plausible threat to humanity, just a god damned idiot (and maybe a bit of a sociopath -- oops!).
They gave him a long lecture attempting to impress on him the value of human life, and decided that mmmaybe he needed to interact with some other people his own age and learn to be a regular person, and that's why he's being inflicted on the students at Para.
House Politics: He has had next to zero contact with the outside world, so he assumes that what he learned about other Houses is the unfiltered truth. However, this gets translated through his own general unfamiliarity/skepticism about morality into more of a morbid fascination with the vileness of his House's enemies than actual revulsion.
Personality: A ridiculous, egotistical know-it-all with very little life experience. But don't count him out completely! He has seen movies. He has read books! (So many books). He pretty much gets how people work, but it's all so hypothetical to him that they might as well be fictional. He's working on that.
The lecture he received about the importance of being something reasonably approaching a good person actually mostly sank in -- but he grasps it intellectually more than he does emotionally. He's open to the idea that other humans are people -- makes total sense, gosh, sorry! -- but he's kind of gingerly testing it out. He's... not great with other people's feelings, and mostly just says whatever he wants to, when he wants to. Because what he has to say is definitely WISE and CORRECT and any problems that result are probably the other person's fault.
But he's actually very curious about other people and he thinks he knows what decisions they should make because he himself is fairly emotionally detached and he's seen all of these problems and conflicts before on TV dramas -- it's pretty obvious how they should all turn out, right?? So he's kind of nosy and bossy and callous and flippant with his advice.
He is also super vain and will eagerly accept compliments about his look. Prior to Para he has received very few non-compliments about his appearance, and would probably find them baffling because his sense of style is obviously objectively better than everyone else's and it's a shame the rest of the world is so drab looking.
Does he have any good qualities??? Well, since he's trying to behave himself and to be open-minded about treating others as he'd like to be treated (or however that went), it's possible that some good qualities might blossom. Or he'll drive people nuts and eventually try to conquer the school.
On the flipside, it wasn't completely for nothing that his tutors praised him -- he's academically curious and good at school, with a particular interest in magical history and the spirit world, as well as art, architecture, and design-related subjects. He will be vaguely worried that his education will go downhill at Para since the teachers cannot be completely all about him 24/7.
Flaws: Pretty much all of the above.
Magic and Skill Details
Magic and Skills:
Channeling (Earth-Focused): He has the ability to make crystalline structures of various kinds -- from quick-growing platforms for movement assists to barriers to sharp or blunt weaponry. These structures can also be manipulated to change shape after they've been "grown."
Invoking: He has an affinity for a particularly strange sort of spirit -- angelic yet monstrous beings that communicate through choral noises. They are a little bigger than a basketball, and can fly and assist him with trivial tasks -- they also can sing lasers at people in combat situations.
Mending (mostly bad mending): Used in combination with crystal channeling so that when he is able to encase an opponent in crystal (even partially, like trapping a foot) there is a chance of transferring a status effect such as poison, sleep, etc. The more crystal is in contact with the target, the more powerful the mending effects -- if he can encase a person or monster entirely, he could put them into a magical stasis (which is actually kind of beneficial if you're going to be entirely trapped inside a crystal since there's no air in there).
Mundane Skill: Architecture. He's good at planning structures and, like many Weatherfords, has a keen, if eccentric, eye for design -- his tastes run, well... absurdly lavish. When he conquered his first and only town, he built a pointless miniature crystal palace like Elsa because, like, why not. An underlying thread of his motivation for conquering the world involved redecorating it.
